How Your Filter Works
When you use your Orlando air conditioning unit to control the temperature in your home, it pulls in air which it then cools as necessary to achieve the desired temperature. All of this air enters the system through an intake vent and is filtered through your air filter. This filter helps to keep allergens, pollutants, mold, mildew, and other airborne nasties from circulating around your home—or worse, growing in your ventilation system.
Why Change It?
All of the microscopic dust and debris your filter keeps from circulating in your home end up accumulating on the surface of the filter, making it less efficient over time. A dirty filter is unable to keep these airborne particles out of your air, and it also makes it more difficult for your unit to intake air, meaning you have to pay higher energy costs. After a while, this extra effort can cause your HVAC to wear down, meaning you would have to call your local Orlando air conditioner repair service.
It’s Easy to Do
Changing out your air filter is actually incredibly easy to do yourself. Simply find your air intake vent, unscrew and remove the vent cover, and remove and replace the filter. You can use the existing filter to determine what size filter you will need (this information is often printed on the filter itself), and replacement filters are easy to find and purchase from your local hardware store.
When Does It Need Changing?
We generally recommend that you change your Orlando HVAC filter every 30 to 60 days, but this can vary depending on the type of filter you are using and the kind of air quality you have. If you have allergies, pets, or just general poor air quality in your home, we recommend changing your filter closer to once a month. If you notice that your filters are not particularly dirty when you go to change them, you may be able to wait a little longer.
